Today we left the Oasis in Amarillo and we saw some more miles and miles of Texas. Although there were some distinct changes in the landscape. As we got closer to New Mexico the flat topography gave way to rocky bluffs and distant mountains.
Somewhere back around OK City, Interstate 40 basically sidles up to the "Mother Road".
In many places you can see the old highway parallels the new. For the most part you'd never know it save for the occasional abandoned hotel/diner/gas station crumbling beside the old blacktop.
This guy was obviously going for the whole Route 66 experience as he drove along on the old road all by himself!

In other places efforts have been made to revive or hold onto the memories of that time.
Lot's of Route 66 shops and tourist traps scattered along the miles. No we didn't stop at any!

We crossed the Rio Grande today!
And into New Mexico! I think I previously gave Ohio props for nicest "entering" signage. No more. That distinction now goes to New Mexico!
Clines Corners- continuous operation since 1934 on the mother road.
We stayed the night in Albuquerque at American RV Park. While we were there, our next door neighbor came over and asked if he could clean our windshield, since he was about finished cleaning his! Man we needed that bad. Super nice people out there!
Albuquerque has a big balloon festival next weekend and many RVers at the park are already there for that!
